Methods: We included 423 newly diagnosed PD patients, free from antiparkinsonian treatment, from the PPMI. We compared the proportion of patients starting on L-DOPA during the first year of follow-up, and the changes in MDS-UPDRS total score and sub-scores during the first five follow-up years for patients exposed or not to ARBs or ACEIs. Results: Treatment with ARBs did not affect the proportion of patients on L-DOPA during the first year (adjusted OR, 95% CI = 0.26, 0.03–2.18, N.S.) while reduced MDS-UPDRS total score (0.85, 0.76–0.95, p < 0.01). Patients treated with ACEIs experienced no changes in either measure. Conclusions: These results show potential signals for a beneficial effect with ARBs. Further clinical trials are warranted. | Descriptores: | | Contribuidores: | Udovin, Lucas; Otero Losada, Matilde; Bordet, Sofia; Chevalier, Guenson; Quarracino, Cecilia; Perez Lloret, Santiago | Fecha: | 2021-08-20 | Formato: | application/pdf | Extensión: | 4 paginas | Idioma: | eng | Lugar: | 7006477, Argentina (nation) | Sede: | Buenos Aires | Carrera: | MEDICINA | Notas: | Trabajo de investigación publicado |

Coronavirus outbreaks have been registered in 2003 [severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)], 2009 [Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS)], and 2019/2020 ongoing [CoV disease (COVID-19)]. Influenza outbreaks were documented in 1918 (post-World War I Spanish flu, H1N1 virus), 1957–1958 (Asian flu, H2N2 virus), 1968 (the Hong Kong flu, H3N2 virus), and 2009 (the swine flu, H1N1 virus). These viruses can only affect humans after mutating in their usual animal hosts, presenting as a zoonotic disease in the beginning. | Descriptores: | | Fecha: | 2020-12-22 | Formato: | application/pdf | Extensión: | 4 paginas | Idioma: | eng | Lugar: | 7006287, Buenos Aires (inhabited place) | Sede: | Buenos Aires | Carrera: | MEDICINA | Notas: | Trabajo de investigación publicado |
